How Reiki & Somatic Healing Help You Release, Cry, Scream — and Truly Transform

Benefits of Reiki and Other Types of Somatic Release

I’ve been thinking a lot about somatic release lately (yes, that messy, beautiful crying and shaking kind), and how combining reiki energy healing with therapy can actually help you feel in your body in a way most talk therapy just… doesn’t.

What the heck is somatic healing anyway?

So, somatic therapy (or somatic trauma healing) is all about your body, not just your brain. According to experts, it’s this idea that our bodies store emotions, especially difficult ones like trauma.
Instead of only talking about what happened, we tune into how our body is holding it. Where do you feel tension? A tight chest? A heavy belly? That’s where the healing lives.

Somatic therapy can involve breathwork, movement, even dance.
When we actually let those stored feelings move — when we cry, scream, shake — that’s somatic release. It’s not just “feel sad,” but physically feel sadness in your body, like it’s saying, “Here I am, I’ve been waiting.”

Why talk therapy alone sometimes misses the mark

Don’t get me wrong — I do psychotherapy (CBT, IFS, communication coaching) in my practice, and I love it. But with just talk: sometimes, we go over the same memory, the same words … and feel nothing. Our mind understands, but our body’s like, “Meh, not really.”

That’s where somatic work comes in. While we chat, I might guide you to notice what’s happening in your body. Your nervous system gets to regulate, and slowly, the emotions that were stuck too long begin to move. This is so different from just analyzing a memory — it’s deeply felt.

Enter Reiki: energy healing meets the body

Now, sprinkle in some Reiki energy healing — and magic happens.

Reiki is this gentle, non-invasive biofield therapy. It channels universal life-force energy to help release blockages and calm your system.
From a somatic trauma lens, Reiki can soothe your nervous system, help you reconnect with your body, and even create a space for interoception (that’s your internal awareness).
Research even shows that Reiki, when done over enough sessions, can significantly improve quality of life.
During a session, you might feel warmth, tingling, or — yes — an emotional release. Tears, shaking, even deep sighs. That’s your body letting go. Some of my clients call it a “crazy cathartic download.”

Adding Sound Healing, Past Life Regression & Yoga to the mix

Okay, but I don’t stop at Reiki and talk therapy. In my practice (at Love Empowerment Clinic), I integrate:

  • Past Life Regression Hypnosis: We can gently explore soul-level patterns that might be contributing to current blockages. Sometimes, trauma feels like it’s not just from this life — and regression work can help us release energetic imprints from other times. It helps you enter the memories from the past lives, learn the lessons from then and apply needed changes in your current life. Past lives only come up for us if they are relevant to what we are doing in our current life, there is always a lesson and message. You can also contact your subconscious mind to find out more about your purpose in the current lifetime. While in a subconscious mind your body also heals spontaneously, therefore people experience physical healing, even one session can sometimes heal conditions like asthma, genealogical problems, immune problems and other.

  • Sound Healing: Think drumming, singing bowls, frequencies. Sound can vibrate through you, loosen up stuck energy, and shift things on a cellular level. Helps you feel in a safe way.

  • Yoga: Because embodiment is real. I teach yoga, and we use mindful movement + breath to ground you, to help you stay present, and to invite your body into the healing conversation. It also helps you notice where do you hold the difficult/dense energies in you body. Where do you feel tight? It helps you to over time stretch those spots so that the energy/emotion can be released from there.

When I combine all these — reiki, somatic therapy, regression, sound, yoga — clients often experience a profound somatic release. They let out things they didn’t even know were trapped.

Why it matters: reclaiming emotional expression

Society has all these weird rules about crying or screaming — like, “too much” is bad. But not letting yourself truly feel limits your processing. Our ability to manifest, to heal, to become is tied to how deeply we can release and integrate.

Growing up, tribal and native cultures had ceremonies, rituals, community gatherings, singing, pipe ceremonies, dance — spaces for collective release. That wasn’t just for show. It was healing. That kind of emotional & body expression is powerful. It’s medicine.

Therapy alone — even excellent talk therapy — doesn’t always cut it by itself. Real healing often comes from combining mind + body + spirit.

A quick science note (because why not get nerdy):

  • Somatic therapy helps release trapped emotions in the body that can show up as tension or physical symptoms.

  • Reiki has been linked to improved quality of life in studies, especially when several sessions are done.

  • Energy work + somatic work together support healing on both the physical and energetic level.
